Fabric Printing for Adults

Screenprinting is one of the most versatile of all of the print media, and has many applications in today’s market place. This course teaches you how to use the specially designed screen printing tables to achieve remarkably high standards by  employing techniques of colour printing and over printing.

This is a two day course. Students are taught how to design, draw, and cut paper stencils which are then used to screenprint on to paper , concentrating on print registration and  colour mixing. Everyone then decides how to make use of their new skill to design a more ambitious , larger piece of work onto cloth. This involves repeat printing of multicolour imagery in which print registration plays a major role. Teamwork is important, too, so students could  consider enrolling on the programme with a friend.

The design work can be quite large and bold, or fine and detailed, and depends on what you would like to use your fabric for once you get it home. Table cloths, cushion covers and curtains for a small window are all possibilities. This course is also instrumental for people who work in education or community groups , as this type of printing is very useful for making banners and T-shirts for special events, celebrations and processions.

All the equipment and materials required for this course are supplied. The programme is for adults aged 18 years and upwards.

The printmaking inks are safe and washable with soap and water, but they can sometimes stain clothing. So note that everyone should wear workclothes on the day, as well as having aprons available for all of the participants.
