Papermaking For Adults Papermaking is a popular course for adults, as the process is quite simple but the applications are endless. Using basic papermaking screens and a food liquidiser, everyone learns how to make their own sheets of handmade paper from recycled paper pulp. Participants learn how to prepare their own raw materials, form their paper, press it, and process it for drying. By adding different colours of recycled papers, as well as flowers, organic, and found materials, every new piece of handmade paper that gets made is it different from the one before. Sheets can then either be dried in a safe place in your venue, or sent home at the end of the day. Finished pieces can then be used for writing, drawing, or painting on. Handmade paper can also be made into greeting cards, printed on, and there are even people who put them through their computer printers ! One day course: after becoming proficient in making A5 and A4 sized pages, students are given time to make more experimental pieces to include a wide variety of different shapes, colours, textures, and inserts. Tips will be given on how to set up a papermaking unit at home or in an educational setting, as well as further uses for handmade papers like papier-mâché and jewellery. Two day course: in a suitable venue, it’s possible to dry some of the pieces from day one in preparation for experimenting with shape, size, and constructions on the second day. Students will spend time learning how to create ornaments, bowls, jewellery, lampshades, containers and little booklets from their original papers, as well as being introduced to printing on the paper, too.
