People are always interested in observing craftspeople at work, so this is an opportunity for everyone to see how woodcut prints are made. Designs are carved onto wooden blocks and printed by hand burnishing and the use of a small portable print press. The whole process in ongoing throughout the day, so people can watch the work progress as the day unfolds. At the same time, anyone can come along and operate the machinery, so that they can take home an original woodcut hot off the press. Children are especially fascinated by the process, and enjoy the fact that they can “have a go” themselves. Oftentimes, a special print can be made to commemorate the event which is taking place at your venue. Displays about the history of woodblock printing, equipment used, and contemporary designs with original woodcut prints decorate the stand. People can also gain insight into how they might set up their own printmaking unit at home. The demonstration stand can be set up almost anywhere, and is well received in festivals, celebrations, themed events and craft fairs. A minimum of 4 x 6 foot long tables are required, as well as a powerpoint for lighting . The printmaking stand can be run inside or outside, but some form of shelter is necessary as gusty winds can be a problem .
